Best Places to Eat in Houston

We moved to Austin almost a year ago, but we still haven’t found the place. You know the Friday night spot with the good margaritas. A friend recently made the trek to Houston and I couldn’t stop going on and on about all the places she had to eat.  This list is only the tip of the iceberg, but a great place to start. If you don’t eat at El Tiempo, we can’t be friends anymore.

El Tiempo – If you visit Texas without eating TexMex, you are doing it wrong.  Order the fajitas and drink 2 margaritas. Seriously, the perfect Friday night. Jon talks about this place so much that our Austin friends now want to visit Houston just to eat here. It’s a little pricey, but so worth it.

Hot Bagel – Best place to get a bagel in Houston. It’s unassuming shop with a green awning and straightforward name. Order any bagel or the pretzel dog.

Southside Espresso – Houston’s craft coffee game is strong, but this one is my personal favorite. It has one of the best patios to people watch. I’m admittedly biased on this one because my brother-in-law owns the place. But Yelp agrees.

Collina’s – Best pizza in Houston. This is a big debate among the Houstonians, but nothing beats a BYOB place with a good pizza. Order the margarita pizza and pay the $1 cork fee for your grocery store wine.

Coltivare – For the more upscale Italian experience, Coltivare delivers delicious pizza and pasta. It’s located in the Heights, a popular neighborhood inside the loop.
